Math 097 Elementary Algebra I
ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA I
COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES:
First in a two course elementary algebra sequence. Students have one quarter to complete the first half of an elementary algebra course. Students entering the course are expected to have had an arithmetic course including an introduction to negative and positive numbers and are expected to have completed a Basic Algebra unit (like Math 94) including an introduction to variables. Math 97 topics include solving one variable linear equations, formulas and applications, graphing, slope, equations of lines, solving systems of linear equations and their applications, solving linear inequalities, and operations with exponents and polynomials. Fractions will be used throughout the course. Graphing Calculators are required.
PREREQUISITE:
Math 94 (Basic Mathematics) or equivalent including a unit of Basic Algebra with a grade of C or better.
